CO-OP to improve daily tasks and executive skills after stroke
Effects of the Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) Approach on Occupational Performance and Executive Function in Adults With Stroke: A Randomised Controlled Trial
This program will try the CO-OP method with adults who have had a stroke to see if it helps them do everyday tasks more easily and improves planning and attention.

What this trial studies
This randomized study compares standard occupational therapy alone versus standard therapy plus the Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) approach in adults in the subacute phase after stroke. Participants are randomly assigned to receive CO-OP sessions (45 minutes per session, five days a week for four weeks) in addition to usual occupational therapy or to receive usual occupational therapy alone. Researchers will measure changes in real-life daily activity performance and executive functions such as planning and attention before and after the intervention. The trial enrolls first-ever stroke patients who can read and write and are receiving rehabilitation at Etlik City Hospital in Ankara.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults 3 months to 2 years after a first-ever stroke, with Brunnstrom stage 2 or higher, able to read and write, and receiving rehabilitation at Etlik City Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients with moderate to severe aphasia, significant cognitive impairment (MMSE ≤ 24), other major orthopedic, psychological, or neurological conditions, or those not receiving care at the study site are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, CO-OP could help stroke survivors regain independence in meaningful daily tasks and strengthen planning and attention skills.
How similar studies have performed: CO-OP has shown promise in improving task performance and executive function in rehabilitation studies, but randomized evidence specifically in subacute adult stroke populations remains limited.
