What this trial studies
This observational project partners with Clean Water Action to deliver clean-beauty educational events in Newark and measures attendee knowledge and behavior around hair products. Investigators will collect surveys on hair product use, perceptions, and safety knowledge immediately before and after each event. A follow-up survey at three months will examine whether any changes in knowledge or self-reported product use persist over time. Results will help guide community outreach and exposure-reduction strategies around endocrine-disrupting chemicals in personal care products.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults age 18 and older who attend Clean Water Action clean beauty events in Newark, NJ are the intended participants.
Not a fit: People who do not attend the events, already avoid the targeted products, or lack access to safer alternatives are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the intervention could help people choose safer hair products and reduce exposure to potentially harmful endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
How similar studies have performed: Previous community education programs have sometimes improved knowledge and self-reported product choices, but sustained reductions in chemical exposures have been less consistently demonstrated.
