What this trial studies
Adults with schizophrenia who are in remission and receiving regular medication will participate in supervised clay therapy sessions at a single university center. The intervention is delivered in addition to standard pharmacological treatment to patients who have shown treatment compliance and adequate cognitive screening (MMSE ≥20). Outcomes focus on functional recovery and individual and social performance measured before and after the intervention. Patients in an acute episode or lacking insight are excluded from participation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) diagnosed with schizophrenia who are in remission, regularly taking medication, have treatment compliance, at least primary-school education, attend the Community Mental Health Centre, and score 20 or higher on the MMSE are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People in an active psychotic episode, those who are not taking medication or not engaged with treatment, those lacking insight, or with very low cognitive function may not receive benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, clay therapy could help improve everyday functioning and social participation for people with schizophrenia when used alongside medication.
How similar studies have performed: Art therapies have shown promising benefits for emotional expression and social functioning in small studies, but rigorous trials specifically testing clay therapy in schizophrenia remain limited.
