Circuit training to improve muscle mass and quality of life in postmenopausal women
The Effects of Short-Term Circuit Strength Training Intervention on Muscle Mass, Metabolic Health, Balance, Quality of Life, and Inflammaging in Sedentary Postmenopausal Women
This study tests if a 10-week circuit training program can help sedentary postmenopausal women gain muscle, improve their strength and balance, and enhance their overall quality of life.

What this trial studies
This research investigates the effects of short-term circuit strength training on muscle mass, strength, balance, functional capacity, and quality of life in sedentary postmenopausal women. The study employs a randomized controlled trial design and utilizes various assessment tools, including body composition measurements, grip strength tests, and questionnaires to evaluate psychosocial factors. Participants will undergo a 10-week intervention, with initial and final data collection to assess the impact of the exercise program.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are sedentary females aged 50 to 75 years who are postmenopausal and physically capable of participating in exercise.
Not a fit: Patients who are already moderately to highly active or have health conditions contraindicating physical exercise may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance physical and psychosocial well-being in postmenopausal women through improved muscle mass and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with exercise interventions in similar populations, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Females aged between 50 and 75 years. * Self-reported postmenopausal status (i.e., cessation of menstruation for a minimum of 12 months). * Physically capable of participating in an exercise intervention. * No engagement in structured resistance or aerobic training programs in the six months preceding the study. Exclusion Criteria: * Classification as moderate and highly active on the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) (600-3000 MET-minutes/week for "moderate" and higher than 3000 MET-minutes/week for "high" score) * Diagnosis of any health condition that constitutes a contraindication to physical exercise (e.g., significant cardiovascular disease, orthopedic or neuromuscular restrictions impacting exercise performance or safety). * Regular use of medication with the potential to affect study outcomes (e.g., corticosteroids, immunosuppressants).
