CHRIST program to improve upper arm function in children after stroke

Effects of Comprehensive Hand Repetitive Intense Strength Training on Upper Limb Function in Children With Pediatric Stroke

Not applicable Interventional Riphah International University · NCT07441057

What this trial studies

This interventional study delivers Comprehensive Hand Repetitive Intensive Strength Training (CHRIST), a high-repetition, strength-based, goal-oriented therapy targeting upper limb coordination and use in pediatric stroke survivors. Children aged 7–12 with clinical upper limb motor impairment receive structured therapy sessions and their manual ability is measured before and after the intervention using the ABILHAND-Kids questionnaire. Participants with recent intensive upper limb therapy, uncontrolled seizures, severe cognitive/behavioral impairments, or orthopedic limitations are excluded. The study is conducted at clinical sites that treat pediatric stroke patients in Mandi Bahāuddīn, Punjab Province.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 7–12 with a history of ischemic or hemorrhagic pediatric stroke and clinical upper limb motor impairment who can attend therapy and whose parents/guardians provide consent.

Not a fit: Children with severe cognitive or behavioral problems, uncontrolled seizures, recent intensive upper limb therapy, or orthopedic conditions limiting arm movement may not benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, CHRIST could improve hand function and everyday arm use, helping affected children gain more independence in daily activities.

How similar studies have performed: High-repetition, goal-directed hand training has shown benefit in related populations such as pediatric cerebral palsy and adult stroke, but pediatric stroke–specific evidence remains limited.
