What this trial studies

This observational project uses a discrete choice questionnaire to record preferences of adults with advanced chronic kidney disease who are receiving information about dialysis methods. Participants complete choice tasks that present trade-offs (for example, home versus in-center dialysis, required caregiver support, and presence of a compensatory allowance) and provide basic sociodemographic information. The survey is administered to French-speaking patients enrolled in the social security system and able to complete the questionnaire at CHU de Caen. Analyses will describe how socioeconomic vulnerability and eligibility for compensation relate to stated dialysis preferences.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults with advanced chronic kidney disease who are receiving pre-dialysis information, are enrolled in the French social security system, can read and understand French, and are able to complete the questionnaire are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Minors, patients needing urgent dialysis, those transitioning between dialysis methods, non–French speakers, and patients under legal protection are unlikely to benefit from participating.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help align dialysis programs and financial support with patient priorities, potentially increasing appropriate use of home dialysis and improving patient quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Similar discrete choice experiments have been used previously to reveal patient trade-offs in dialysis and related care, though findings differ by country and socioeconomic context.
