What this trial studies
This is a retrospective observational analysis of adults with probable or proven invasive pulmonary mucormycosis treated at Strasbourg University Hospital from January 1, 2009 to June 3, 2025. Investigators will review thoracic CT scans and clinical follow-up to characterize radiological progression and correlate imaging features with clinical outcomes. The goal is to identify CT patterns associated with favorable or unfavorable courses to inform follow-up intensity and therapeutic decisions. Data interpretation will follow the 2020 EORTC/MSGERC diagnostic framework and standard radiological descriptors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (age ≥18) treated at Strasbourg University Hospital between January 1, 2009 and June 3, 2025 with a probable or proven invasive pulmonary Mucorales infection and at least one chest CT scan.
Not a fit: Patients without thoracic CT imaging, those whose infection is not probable or proven pulmonary mucormycosis, or patients treated entirely outside Strasbourg University Hospital are unlikely to benefit from this analysis.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians could use specific CT patterns to tailor monitoring and treatment, potentially improving outcomes and avoiding unnecessary interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While chest imaging is established for diagnosing invasive fungal infections under the 2020 EORTC/MSGERC criteria, using CT progression patterns for prognosis is relatively novel and has limited prior evidence.
