What this trial studies
This observational study aims to comprehensively characterize the genetic and molecular drivers of breast and prostate cancer specifically in individuals of African ancestry. Conducted by the African Caribbean Cancer Consortium, it involves recruiting patients from nine international sites across the Caribbean and Africa, as well as the US. The study will molecularly characterize genomic changes and assess the impact of social determinants of health and lifestyle factors on the mutational landscape. Participants will undergo a detailed survey and provide blood and archived tissue samples for analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include Black individuals aged 18-85 who have been diagnosed with pathologically confirmed breast or prostate cancer.
Not a fit: Patients under 18, incarcerated individuals, or those whose medical decisions are made by proxy will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to a better understanding of cancer in individuals of African ancestry, potentially improving diagnosis and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in its specific focus on African ancestry, similar studies have shown promise in understanding cancer genomics in diverse populations.
Eligibility criteria
