What this trial studies

This pilot randomized controlled trial investigates the effectiveness of chair-bound exergaming on improving physical and cognitive function in pre-frail and frail nursing home residents. Thirty eligible participants will be randomly assigned to either an intervention group, which will engage in a supervised chair-bound exercise program for 12 weeks, or a wait list control group that will receive the same program after a post-assessment. The study aims to explore not only the physical benefits but also the enjoyment of physical activity among participants.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 60 years or older who are pre-frail or frail and living in nursing homes.

Not a fit: Patients with severe cardiometabolic, respiratory, or musculoskeletal disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the physical and cognitive well-being of frail older adults in nursing homes.

How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific intervention focusing on chair-bound exergaming in nursing homes is relatively novel.
