What this trial studies
This intervention focuses on evaluating the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) aimed at enhancing cognitive reappraisal in patients with functional movement disorders. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a cognitive reappraisal group or a control group that engages in reflection tasks. The study involves preliminary examinations and EEG sessions to assess neurobiological responses, followed by a 4-week period where patients will complete tasks via an app. Outcomes will be measured using various clinical scales to determine changes in health and tremor severity.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals diagnosed with a functional movement disorder who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to understand German or cannot give consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved therapeutic options for patients suffering from functional tremors.
How similar studies have performed: While cognitive behavioral therapy has been explored in various contexts, this specific approach focusing on cognitive reappraisal for functional tremors is relatively novel.
