What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a cardiac rehabilitation program that incorporates motivational interviewing for patients discharged after an acute myocardial infarction. It is a randomized clinical trial involving at least 284 participants from six primary healthcare centers. Participants will be assigned to either the motivational interview group or a standard care group, with outcomes assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months post-discharge. The goal is to improve lifestyle changes and rehabilitation outcomes in heart attack survivors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 who have been hospitalized for acute coronary syndrome and are discharged to home with a need for cardiac rehabilitation.

Not a fit: Patients with severe comorbidities, significant psychiatric disorders, or those who have participated in hospital cardiac rehabilitation may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could enhance recovery and lifestyle changes for patients after a heart attack, potentially reducing the risk of future cardiac events.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that motivational interviewing can be effective in promoting lifestyle changes in patients recovering from acute myocardial infarction, suggesting potential success for this approach.
