Cardiac rehabilitation for breast cancer survivors
Cardiac Rehabilitation for Breast Cancer Survivors at Risk for Cardiovascular Disease Secondary to Cardiotoxic Treatment
This study is testing whether in-person or virtual cardiac rehabilitation programs can help breast cancer survivors who are at higher risk for heart problems feel better and improve their heart health.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the feasibility and effectiveness of in-person versus virtual cardiac rehabilitation programs for women who are breast cancer survivors and at increased risk of cardiovascular disease due to prior treatment with anthracyclines and/or trastuzumab. The trial will recruit 50 participants who will be randomized into either the in-person or virtual rehabilitation group. Data will be collected at baseline, after program completion, and six months later to assess cardiovascular function, injury biomarkers, physical fitness, and psychosocial health. The goal is to determine if cardiac rehabilitation can effectively reduce cardiovascular risk in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women over 50 years old who have previously received anthracyclines and/or trastuzumab for breast cancer.
Not a fit: Patients with medical contraindications that prevent safe exercise participation will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a tailored cardiac rehabilitation approach that significantly reduces cardiovascular disease risk in breast cancer survivors.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of cardiac rehabilitation for breast cancer survivors is novel, existing studies have shown that exercise can reduce cardiovascular risk in various clinical populations.
