What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of Buddhist walking meditation on patients undergoing hemodialysis who experience restless leg syndrome. A total of 40 participants will be enrolled and divided into two groups: one group will engage in a 30-minute Buddhist walking meditation session three times a week for 12 weeks, while the control group will not receive this intervention. Each meditation session will include 5 minutes of stretching exercises before and after to serve as warm-up and cool-down. The aim is to assess whether this meditation practice can alleviate symptoms of restless leg syndrome in this specific patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are non-obese patients undergoing hemodialysis who complain of restless leg syndrome.
Not a fit: Patients with cardiac, chest, mental, hepatic diseases, or lower limb orthopedic issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a non-pharmacological method to alleviate restless leg syndrome symptoms in hemodialysis patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of Buddhist walking meditation in this context is novel, similar mindfulness and meditation approaches have shown promise in managing symptoms of various conditions.
