Bone grafting at implant removal to help success of putting a new implant in the same spot

Effect of Bone Augmentation Simultaneous to Implant Removal on the Prognosis of Reimplantation at the Same Site

Not applicable Interventional The Dental Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine · NCT07078890

What this trial studies

The trial compares outcomes after immediate bone augmentation at the time of implant removal with outcomes after allowing the site to heal naturally before reimplantation. Researchers will measure radiographic bone levels and clinical indicators of healing and implant success, and will also review past cases to identify factors that affect bone healing and reimplantation outcomes. Participants are adults with implant failure who plan to receive a new implant at the same site and have stable periodontal health. Follow-up visits and imaging at the participating hospitals will track short- and mid-term prognosis after reimplantation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults over 18 with a failed implant that needs removal who plan to reimplant at the same site and have periodontal health or stabilized periodontitis after treatment are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with uncontrolled metabolic disease, on medications that affect bone metabolism, with an implant already detached at consultation, or unwilling to reimplant or follow up are unlikely to benefit from this approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, simultaneous bone augmentation could improve bone healing and increase the likelihood of a successful reimplantation, reducing the need for additional surgeries.

How similar studies have performed: Similar approaches have some supportive but limited evidence and results have been mixed, so this approach is not yet firmly established.
