Bladder filling after laparoscopic hysterectomy to speed up discharge
Postoperative Bladder Filling After Outpatient Laparoscopic Hysterectomy and Time to Discharge: a Randomized Controlled Trial

What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates whether backfilling the bladder with saline after laparoscopic hysterectomy can reduce the time it takes for patients to void and subsequently be discharged from the post-anesthesia care unit. Patients will be randomly assigned to either receive bladder backfilling or have their Foley catheter removed without backfilling. The study aims to compare the discharge times and voiding times between the two groups. It is a prospective, single-blinded, randomized trial involving women aged 18 to 80 undergoing planned laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are women aged 18 to 80 undergoing planned laparoscopic hysterectomy as a day surgery.
Not a fit: Patients younger than 18 or older than 80, or those undergoing non-laparoscopic unplanned surgical procedures, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to faster recovery times and earlier discharge for patients after laparoscopic hysterectomy.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific approach is novel, similar studies exploring postoperative interventions have shown promising results in improving recovery times.
