What this trial studies
This study aims to determine if birdwatching can effectively reduce perceived stress levels among university students. Participants will either engage in birdwatching outings or be part of a control group with no intervention. The study will measure stress levels using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) and will include semi-structured interviews to gather insights on participants' experiences and reasons for dropout. By comparing the two groups, researchers hope to assess the impact of birdwatching on stress reduction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are university students aged 18 and older enrolled at the Universidad Industrial de Santander with elevated stress levels.
Not a fit: Students with a medical diagnosis of mental illness or those who have engaged in birdwatching in the last six months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a natural and enjoyable method for university students to manage and reduce stress.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using birdwatching for stress reduction is novel, similar interventions involving nature exposure have shown positive outcomes in other studies.
