Biobank for studying musculoskeletal disorders
Costituzione di Una Banca di Materiale Biologico da Paziente (Biobanca) Per lo Studio di Patologie Che Interessano l'Apparato Muscolo-scheletrico
I.R.C.C.S Ospedale Galeazzi-Sant'Ambrogio · NCT03208062
This study is creating a collection of biological samples from patients with musculoskeletal disorders to see if it can help find better treatments for these conditions.

What this trial studies
This project aims to establish a biobank of biological material from patients with musculoskeletal disorders, which include conditions like osteoarthritis and bone tumors. By collecting waste materials from surgeries and treatments, the biobank will facilitate bio-molecular characterization studies to better understand these diseases. The research focuses on identifying new therapeutic targets and improving treatment options for both common and rare musculoskeletal conditions. This initiative is crucial for advancing knowledge in a field that significantly impacts patient quality of life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee, primary or secondary bone tumors, or those undergoing prosthetic surgery due to infection.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this biobank could lead to new insights and treatments for musculoskeletal disorders, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the establishment of biobanks is a common approach in medical research, the specific focus on musculoskeletal disorders and the collection of waste materials for this purpose is a relatively novel initiative.
