Best quick mobility test to track recovery after coronary artery bypass (CABG)
Clinimetric Properties of Performance Based Functional Outcome Measure After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery
This project will test which of four short mobility tests (Time Up and Go, Five Times Sit-to-Stand, 2-minute walk, 6-minute walk) best shows early recovery in adults after CABG surgery.

What this trial studies
Mobile adults aged 30–50 who undergo CABG will follow a standardized physiotherapy protocol and perform four performance-based tests on postoperative day 3 and day 5. The tests compared are the Time Up and Go (TUG), Five Times Sit-to-Stand (5xSTS), 2-minute walk test (2MWT), and 6-minute walk test (6MWT). Investigators will compare clinimetric properties such as responsiveness and ability to detect functional change to identify which test most meaningfully captures early postoperative improvement. The work is conducted within the cardiac rehabilitation program at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Mobile adults aged 30–50 who are hemodynamically stable on postoperative day 3 and day 5 after CABG are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients who are hemodynamically unstable, have cognitive dysfunction, major neurologic or musculoskeletal impairments affecting gait, severe comorbidities, or postoperative complications are unlikely to benefit and are excluded.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians could use one quick, reliable test to guide and personalize early cardiac rehabilitation after CABG, potentially improving functional recovery.
How similar studies have performed: Elements of these tests (for example the 6MWT and TUG) have been validated in cardiac rehab and other surgical populations, but direct head-to-head comparisons in the early post-CABG period are limited.
