What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of a Baduanjin exercise program on geriatric patients suffering from functional dyspepsia. Forty elderly participants will be randomly assigned to two groups: one will engage in a structured Baduanjin exercise regimen five times a week for eight weeks, alongside a daily dose of pantoprazole, while the other group will receive only the medication. The aim is to assess whether the addition of physical activity can enhance treatment outcomes for this common gastrointestinal condition in older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly individuals experiencing symptoms of functional dyspepsia.
Not a fit: Patients with cardiac, respiratory, or articular complaints may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve digestive health and quality of life for elderly patients with functional dyspepsia.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on Baduanjin for functional dyspepsia, similar exercise interventions have shown promise in improving gastrointestinal health in older populations.
