What this trial studies
This study focuses on developing an augmented reality (AR) environment to enhance gait training for patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). It aims to replicate real-world stressors and dynamically adjust the training environment based on real-time feedback from patients' gait performance and stress levels. By incorporating cognitive dual tasks into the training, the study seeks to provide individualized rehabilitation that addresses the unique challenges faced by PD patients. Preliminary results indicate that this approach can effectively elicit varying responses in gait and heart rate variability, suggesting its potential for improving rehabilitation outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.
Not a fit: Patients with musculoskeletal injuries on their legs, osteoporosis, or any peripheral or central nervous system injuries or diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance gait rehabilitation for Parkinson's disease patients, leading to improved mobility and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Preliminary results from similar studies using augmented reality for rehabilitation have shown promise, indicating potential success for this novel approach.
