What this trial studies
The Military Health and Nutrition Examination Study (MHANES) is an observational study funded by the Department of Defense, aiming to evaluate dietary intake, nutritional status, and various health metrics among a diverse sample of 600 Army Service Members. This cross-sectional study will gather data on food and supplement consumption, cardiovascular health, body composition, and gut microbiome composition, modeled after the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. By analyzing these factors, the study seeks to provide insights into the health and performance of active-duty Soldiers, which are currently lacking in comprehensive scientific data.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are U.S. Army Soldiers aged 18 and older who are willing to participate in health assessments and have biological samples stored for future research.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those under 18 years old, pregnant females, and Soldiers currently in Basic Training.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dietary guidelines and health interventions for Army personnel, enhancing their overall health and performance.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in assessing health and nutrition in military populations, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially impactful.
