Assessing the impact of lipoprotein a levels on survival in pancreatic cancer patients

Lipoprotein a is an Independent Risk Factor for Overall Survival in Patients With Pancreatic Cancer: a Propensity Score Matching Analysis

Observational The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University · NCT06316466

What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates the prognostic significance of serum lipoprotein (a) levels on overall survival and progression-free survival in patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinicopathological data of 364 patients from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. Using propensity score matching, patients were categorized into high and low lipoprotein (a) groups, and their survival outcomes were compared through Kaplan-Meier methods and Cox-regression analyses to identify prognostic factors.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult patients over 18 years with histologically confirmed pancreatic cancer and complete lipid profiles available.

Not a fit: Patients with concurrent malignancies or those who have undergone previous treatments like pancreatectomy, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the role of lipoprotein (a) as a prognostic marker, potentially guiding treatment decisions for pancreatic cancer patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using lipoprotein (a) as a prognostic factor in pancreatic cancer is less common, similar studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for cancer prognosis.
