What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on spatial neglect (SN), a cognitive disorder that can hinder recovery after a stroke. It aims to identify SN through a cross-country collaboration between Iceland and Lithuania, utilizing behavioral assessments and visuo-graphic tests to validate a new diagnostic tool. The study also seeks to enhance the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale by integrating a screening component for SN. By including a diverse patient population, the research aims to improve clinical practices for identifying and managing SN in various healthcare settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with a stroke and reside in Iceland or Lithuania.
Not a fit: Patients receiving end-of-life care may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and management of spatial neglect, enhancing recovery outcomes for stroke patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on spatial neglect, this cross-country approach and the development of a new diagnostic tool represent a novel effort in the field.
