Assessing sleep apnea prevalence in patients with difficult-to-treat asthma
Prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Accuracy of Type 3 Home Sleep Apnea Test for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Diagnosis in Difficult-to-treat Asthma: Cross Sectional Cohort Study

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients diagnosed with difficult-to-treat asthma. Participants aged 18 and older will undergo both in-laboratory polysomnography and a home sleep apnea test within a month to assess the accuracy of the home test in diagnosing OSA. The study aims to identify the relationship between asthma control and sleep apnea, potentially leading to improved management strategies for these patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old diagnosed with difficult-to-treat asthma and experiencing persistent symptoms.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of obstructive sleep apnea or other chronic respiratory diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea in patients with difficult-to-treat asthma, leading to better asthma control and overall health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the relationship between asthma and sleep apnea, but the specific approach of this study may provide novel insights.
