Assessing plaque burden and ischemia in patients with MINOCA
Coronary Artery Plaque, Perivascular Inflammation and Myocardial Ischemia in Patients With Myocardial Infraction and Non-obstructive Coronary Arteries
University of Bergen · NCT05681858
This study is testing how much plaque and inflammation is in the arteries of people who have had a heart attack but don’t have blocked arteries, to better understand their condition and improve treatment options.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate coronary artery plaque burden, perivascular inflammation, and the extent of myocardial ischemia in patients who experience acute myocardial infarction but have non-obstructive coronary artery disease (MINOCA). Participants will undergo CT coronary angiography to identify coronary artery anatomy and plaque characteristics, as well as stress [12N] NH3 PET-MR to assess myocardial ischemia. The study seeks to provide insights into the underlying mechanisms of MINOCA, which may lead to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals presenting with acute chest pain, elevated troponin levels, and non-obstructive coronary arteries as determined by coronary angiography.
Not a fit: Patients with obstructive coronary artery disease or those unable to undergo the required imaging procedures will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of MINOCA and lead to better management strategies for patients experiencing this condition.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in the area of MINOCA, this specific approach using CT coronary angiography and PET-MR for detailed assessment is relatively novel.
