What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on understanding how emergency department (ED) care impacts patient-reported outcomes for adults with asthma. The research aims to develop a new instrument to measure these outcomes and evaluate the relationship between the quality of ED clinical processes and patient experiences. Additionally, it will investigate how these outcomes correlate with future acute care utilization. The study is led by Dr. Michelle Lin, who will receive training in patient-centered research and instrument development to enhance asthma care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 or older with a prior asthma diagnosis who are experiencing an ED visit for asthma.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak English or those who are not experiencing an acute asthma episode during their ED visit may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved asthma care in emergency settings, enhancing patient outcomes and reducing future healthcare utilization.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in developing patient-reported outcome measures in various conditions, indicating potential for this approach in asthma care.
