What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the incidence of potentially inappropriate medication (PIM) prescriptions, polypharmacy, and potential drug-drug interactions (PDDIs) among cardiovascular patients aged 75 and older during the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing the Medical Information System 'BARS', the study will analyze data from patients enrolled in a reimbursement program in the Tomsk Region. The study will define PIMs based on the 2015 Beers criteria and assess PDDIs using the Medscape Drug Interaction Checker. Both retrospective and prospective data will be combined to provide a comprehensive overview of medication safety in this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are cardiovascular patients aged 75 years and older who are enrolled in a reimbursement program in the Tomsk Region.
Not a fit: Patients under the age of 18 or those without a diagnosis of cardiovascular disease will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance patient safety by identifying and reducing the use of inappropriate medications in older cardiovascular patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in assessing medication safety in older populations, suggesting that this approach is both relevant and necessary.
