Assessing how healthy bone marrow plasma cells use glutamine

In Vivo Assessment of Glutamine Utilization by Bone Marrow Plasma Cells in Healthy Subjects Using Stable Isotope Resolved Metabolomics: A Pilot Study

What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to evaluate the feasibility of an in vivo method for assessing glutamine utilization in the TCA cycle of normal bone marrow plasma cells from healthy individuals. It will involve 20 healthy adult participants aged 18 to 60, divided into two groups: one undergoing ex vivo analysis and the other in vivo analysis. The study will utilize 5-13C-Glutamine and bone marrow aspiration to gather data on glutamine metabolism. The findings may provide insights into metabolic processes in healthy bone marrow cells.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 18 to 60 who can provide written consent.

Not a fit: Patients with renal failure, active liver disease, or other specified exclusion criteria may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of metabolic processes in healthy bone marrow, potentially informing future research on related conditions.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel, similar metabolic assessments have shown promise in other contexts, indicating potential for success.
