What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) to evaluate the prevalence and grading of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (DD). The research aims to understand how common DD is among DM1 patients and its long-term prognosis. By utilizing Doppler echocardiography, the study will gather data on heart function in this specific patient population, which is at risk for various cardiovascular issues. The findings could provide insights into the relationship between DM1 and heart health.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with genetically confirmed myotonic dystrophy type 1 who have undergone Doppler echocardiography.

Not a fit: Patients with significant valvular disease or wall motion abnormalities may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved monitoring and management of heart health in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on diastolic dysfunction in other populations, this specific focus on myotonic dystrophy type 1 is relatively novel.
