What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the feasibility of implementing routine frailty screening in a vascular surgery outpatient clinic. It involves a cohort of adults over 18 years old who attend the clinic for various reasons. The study compares five different frailty assessment tools, including both patient and clinician assessments, to determine their prognostic value. Outcomes will be measured through recruitment rates, assessment completion rates, and follow-up data on home-time and mortality at 30 days and 1 year post-assessment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older attending the vascular hot clinic.
Not a fit: Patients who lack the capacity to provide informed consent or those for whom the clinical team deems frailty assessment unsuitable may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the identification and management of frailty in vascular surgery patients, potentially improving surgical outcomes and patient care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using frailty assessments in surgical settings, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially beneficial.
