What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the prevalence of frailty among patients over 70 years old who are referred for outpatient digestive endoscopy. A geriatric assessment will be conducted using validated questionnaires to determine the degree of frailty and its impact on the safety and effectiveness of the endoscopic procedures. The study will analyze the relationship between frailty levels and the occurrence of adverse effects or inadequate preparations during endoscopy. By identifying modifiable factors, the study seeks to improve care protocols for frail patients undergoing these procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 70 years and older who are scheduled for outpatient upper or lower digestive endoscopy.

Not a fit: Patients younger than 70 years or those requiring non-ambulatory endoscopies will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the safety and effectiveness of endoscopic procedures for frail elderly patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of assessing frailty in this context is relatively novel, similar studies have shown that geriatric assessments can improve outcomes in elderly patients undergoing various medical procedures.
