What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate ocular parameters related to drowsiness in patients diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. It will involve 100 participants aged 18-70, who will be divided into two groups: those with sleep apnea and those without. Participants will watch a 10-minute video in a foreign language while their eye movements are recorded and analyzed using a Raspberry Pi camera system. The study will utilize both objective imaging techniques and subjective questionnaires to assess concentration and drowsiness levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-70 with a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea and a minimum distance uncorrected visual acuity of 5/10.
Not a fit: Patients with significant visual impairment (dUVA < 5/10), neurological or psychiatric conditions, or those unable to read may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the ocular effects of sleep apnea, potentially leading to better management strategies for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be limited studies directly assessing ocular parameters in sleep apnea, the approach of combining objective and subjective assessments is innovative and not widely tested.
