What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the fitness to drive among stroke patients by examining the relationship between cognitive abilities and driving skills. Participants will undergo extensive neuropsychological testing, including paper and computerized assessments, followed by an on-road driving test conducted by a professional instructor. The study seeks to develop new data analysis methods to assist medical professionals in determining whether stroke survivors can safely operate a vehicle. Feedback will be provided to participants upon request.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 65 or younger who have had an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke and hold a valid driver's license.

Not a fit: Patients with serious movement disorders, visual impairments, or psychiatric conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify stroke patients who are safe to drive, enhancing their independence and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between cognitive function and driving ability has been explored, this study's specific approach using novel data analysis methods is relatively novel.
