What this trial studies
This study evaluates the impact of phakic intraocular lens (IOL) implantation on the corneal endothelium in young adults. Using a specular microscope, researchers will measure changes in corneal endothelial cell density following the procedure. The study aims to determine whether this type of lens implantation affects corneal health over time. Participants will be monitored for endothelial cell counts to assess any potential adverse effects.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-35 with high myopia and sufficient anterior chamber depth.
Not a fit: Patients with previous eye diseases, surgeries, or insufficient anterior chamber depth may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the safety of phakic IOLs and their long-term effects on corneal health.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have been conducted, the specific focus on corneal endothelial assessment post-phakic IOL implantation may provide novel insights.
