What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate cognitive functioning in children and adolescents aged 11-15 years diagnosed with cerebral palsy who are attending mainstream schools in Denmark. The study highlights the often-overlooked cognitive impairments associated with cerebral palsy, which can lead to significant academic and social challenges. By systematically assessing cognitive abilities, the study seeks to identify the need for cognitive assessments in the follow-up program for children with cerebral palsy. A control group of children without cerebral palsy will also be included for comparison.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 11-15 years diagnosed with cerebral palsy who are currently attending a mainstream school in Denmark.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak or understand Danish at the necessary level to participate, or those with other neurological disorders, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and support for cognitive impairments in children with cerebral palsy, enhancing their educational and social outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach to cognitive assessment in children with cerebral palsy is gaining attention, it remains relatively novel and underexplored in the context of systematic follow-up programs.
