What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate novel prognostic tools for identifying women at risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) by establishing a cardiovascular health screening program at St. Boniface Hospital. The study will involve a cohort of 1000 women aged 55 and older over a five-year period, focusing on predicting adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Additionally, the study seeks to identify new CVD biomarkers through the collection of blood and stool samples for future research. The goal is to improve the sensitivity of CVD risk assessments specifically for women, addressing the current underrepresentation in cardiovascular research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 55 and older who possess a Manitoba Personal Health Information Number.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of significant cardiovascular conditions or previous participation in related studies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate risk assessments and improved prevention strategies for cardiovascular disease in women.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success in similar approaches, particularly in assessing cardiovascular risk in women, indicating potential for this study's methodology.
