Assessing cancer risk in adrenal lesions that secrete hormones

CRISAL Study:Cancer Risk In Secreting Adrenal Lesions

Observational University of Roma La Sapienza · NCT06520111

This study is trying to see if adrenal lesions that produce hormones have a higher cancer risk than those that don’t, while also looking for the best way to surgically remove them.

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the cancer risk associated with secreting adrenal lesions compared to non-secreting ones. It will analyze intraoperative and postoperative outcomes of patients undergoing adrenalectomy for these lesions, focusing on whether adrenal hormone activity serves as an independent predictor of malignancy. Additionally, the study seeks to identify the most effective minimally invasive surgical approach for different types of adrenal lesions. The findings could enhance the understanding of the risk-benefit ratio in managing patients with adrenal lesions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for elective adrenalectomy.

Not a fit: Patients undergoing emergency adrenalectomy or those under 18 years old will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for patients with secreting adrenal lesions, potentially reducing unnecessary surgeries.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature on adrenal lesions, this study's specific focus on the cancer risk of secreting lesions and comparison of surgical approaches is relatively novel.
