Assessing bone quality in dental implants using guided surgery techniques

Exploring the Impact of Fully Guided Implant Placement on Classifying Bone Quality Through Tactile Sensation

What this trial studies

This observational study investigates how fully guided implant placement affects the assessment of bone quality through tactile sensation. It involves a pilot study with five subjects, followed by a main experiment with thirty subjects, where participants will drill into simulated bone samples of varying densities. The study compares the evaluation of bone density using conventional drilling methods versus those using a fully guided surgical template. Participants will record their assessments using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) after each drilling session to determine any differences in accuracy between the two methods.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are board-certified dentists aged 24-40 with less than 10 implant surgeries performed.

Not a fit: Patients who are not board-certified dentists or those who have extensive experience in implant surgery may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the precision of dental implant placements, leading to improved patient outcomes and higher implant success rates.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using fully guided surgery is gaining traction, this specific investigation into tactile sensation and bone quality classification is relatively novel.
