What this trial studies

This observational study involves 31 patients aged 50-80 years diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease and 31 healthy volunteers. It aims to evaluate the mental and functional status of Parkinson's patients using various scales, including the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale. Additionally, the study will assess balance confidence, overall balance, fear of falling, and kinesiophobia levels through specific assessment tools. No interventions will be administered, focusing solely on observational data collection.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 50-80 years with a diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease at Modified Hoehn-Yahr stages 1-3.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological or musculoskeletal conditions other than Parkinson's disease or those with psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of balance confidence and fear of falling in Parkinson's disease, potentially leading to improved patient management strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored aspects of balance and fear of falling in Parkinson's disease, this specific observational approach is less common and may provide novel insights.
