What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the vestibular function and postural stability of patients undergoing cochlear implantation. Participants will undergo a series of comprehensive examinations to assess their standing stability under various conditions, both before and after surgery. The study will measure the impact of sound stimulation on balance and stability through repeated assessments at different intervals post-surgery. The goal is to understand how cochlear implants affect not only hearing but also the vestibular system and overall postural control.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who meet the criteria for cochlear implantation and are undergoing the procedure.
Not a fit: Patients with diseases affecting load-bearing joints, peripheral nervous system disorders, or vision impairments that hinder visual fixation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of vestibular function in cochlear implant patients, leading to improved rehabilitation strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have explored cochlear implantation effects on hearing, the specific focus on vestibular function and postural stability is relatively novel.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * patients who meet the demanding indication criteria for cochlear implantation (include an ENT examination, audiometry, neurological examination, examination by a clinical speech therapist and by a psychologist and CT examination of the temporal bones) also meet the conditions for inclusion into the study Exclusion Criteria: * the presence of diseases of the load-bearing joints of the limbs * the presence of diseases of peripheral nervous system or muscle disease * the presence of disease of vision which would make visual fixation impossible
