What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the growth parameters and prevalence of anemia in infants admitted with acute gastroenteritis. It focuses on measuring key anthropometric indicators such as height, weight, and head circumference to assess physical well-being. The study aims to understand the impact of acute gastroenteritis on growth and nutritional status in young children, particularly in resource-constrained settings. By identifying the prevalence of anemia, the study seeks to highlight the nutritional challenges faced by this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are infants aged 1 month to 2 years who are hospitalized with acute gastroenteritis.
Not a fit: Patients who are less than 1 month or more than 2 years old, or those with chronic diarrhea or acute gastroenteritis associated with chronic disease, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights that lead to improved nutritional interventions for infants suffering from acute gastroenteritis.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored the effects of gastroenteritis on growth and nutrition, this specific focus on anemia prevalence in infants is relatively novel.
