Assessing a specific genetic mutation in prostate cancer patients in Martinique
Prevalence of the c.853delT Mutation of the HOXB13 Gene in Prostate Cancer in Martinique

What this trial studies
This study aims to estimate the prevalence of the c.853delT mutation of the HOXB13 gene among prostate cancer patients in Martinique, where the incidence of prostate cancer is notably high. The research involves sequencing the HOXB13 gene in adult men diagnosed with prostate cancer, regardless of the histological type or stage, who are managed in urology consultations. The study focuses on understanding the genetic basis of hereditary prostate cancer, particularly in individuals of African descent, to provide essential information for genetic counseling. By identifying the prevalence of this mutation, the study seeks to assess the associated risks for carriers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult men over 18 years of age living in Martinique with any form of prostate cancer managed in urology consultations.
Not a fit: Patients who are not of African descent or those not affiliated with French social security may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance genetic counseling and risk assessment for prostate cancer in patients with the HOXB13 c.853delT mutation.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific mutation has been reported in other populations, the focus on the c.853delT variant in the context of Martinique's prostate cancer incidence is a novel approach.
