Assessing a new technique for measuring gum tissue changes in aesthetic dentistry
Assessment of The Accuracy of Complete Crown 3D Superimposition Technique Relative to The Gold Standard Technique for Digital Quantification of Volumetric Soft Tissue Changes in The Esthetic Zone
This study is testing a new way to measure changes in gum tissue during cosmetic dental procedures to see if it works better than the current standard method.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the accuracy of a complete crown technique for superimposing 3D models to quantitatively assess changes in gingival tissues during aesthetic crown lengthening procedures. Patients will undergo presurgical and follow-up intraoral scans, with digital models analyzed for volumetric changes over a six-month period. The study aims to compare this new technique against a gold standard method to determine its precision and reliability in clinical settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients requiring aesthetic crown lengthening with sufficient keratinized tissue and good oral hygiene.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic health conditions affecting healing, those requiring prosthetic crowns in the aesthetic zone, or those with a gummy smile and normal tooth proportions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this technique could provide a more accurate and reproducible method for assessing gum tissue changes, improving outcomes in aesthetic dental procedures.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is based on a novel technique introduced in a previous in-vitro study, its clinical application remains largely untested.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: 1. Patients requiring esthetic crown lengthening. 2. Full-mouth plaque and bleeding score not exceeding 20%. 3. Presence of at least 2.5 mm keratinized tissue width (Pontoriero \& Carnevale, 2001). 4. Patients showing motivation to comply with post-operative care instructions and follow-up appointments. Exclusion Criteria: * 1\. Systemic health conditions that contraindicate or affect healing of periodontal surgery. 2\. Patients requiring prosthetic crowns or restorations in the esthetic zone. 3. Gummy smile with normal tooth proportions. 4. Patients treated with medications known to affect the gingiva (Phenytoin, Cyclosporine and Nifedipine). 5\. Smokers. 6. Pregnant and nursing females.
