What this trial studies
This study evaluates a new preventative physical therapy model called the Mobility Checkup, designed for older adults. Participants will undergo an annual assessment that measures physical performance and provides education on maintaining mobility for overall health. The study aims to assess the feasibility of implementing this model and collecting data on its effectiveness over time. By focusing on early identification of mobility issues, the study seeks to prevent mobility disability in older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 55 and older who can walk independently, with or without assistance.
Not a fit: Patients currently experiencing short-term mobility issues or those who have had a recent cardiac event may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the mobility and overall health of older adults, potentially preventing disability.
How similar studies have performed: While the concept of preventive mobility assessments is supported by evidence, this specific approach is novel and has not been widely tested.
