What this trial studies
This observational study aims to estimate the economic burden of falls among individuals with Parkinson's disease living in Hong Kong. It will involve community-dwelling participants of any age and gender, who will complete self-reported questionnaires to assess healthcare utility, fall frequency, disease severity, and quality of life. The study will conduct a prospective cost-utility analysis with assessments at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months to gather comprehensive data on the impact of falls on this population. The findings will help inform healthcare strategies and interventions for fall prevention in Parkinson's disease.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling individuals of any age and gender with a confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson's disease residing in Hong Kong.
Not a fit: Patients who are wheelchair-bound, bed-ridden, have atypical Parkinson's syndrome, or other major illnesses such as stroke may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the economic impact of falls, potentially leading to improved fall prevention strategies for patients with Parkinson's disease.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on falls in Parkinson's disease, this specific cost-utility analysis approach in Hong Kong is relatively novel.
