Analyzing retinal arteries in stroke patients using advanced imaging
Adaptive Optics (AO) Analysis of Retinal Arteries in Patients With Recent Stroke (STROKAO)
Fondation Ophtalmologique Adolphe de Rothschild · NCT04712747
This study is testing a new imaging technique to look at the blood vessels in the eyes of stroke patients to see how they might be affected by the stroke.

What this trial studies
This observational study utilizes adaptive optics to analyze the retinal vascular system in patients who have experienced a recent stroke. By employing advanced imaging techniques, the study aims to visualize and measure various structural parameters of retinal vessels, which may provide insights into the microvascular changes associated with stroke. The research includes both stroke patients and matched controls to enhance the understanding of retinal changes in relation to stroke pathology. The findings could lead to improved monitoring and treatment strategies for stroke patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include inpatients with confirmed stroke occurring within the last 10 days.
Not a fit: Patients with hemorrhagic post-traumatic hematoma strokes or those with insufficient consciousness to undergo the examination may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of stroke-related microvascular changes and improve patient management.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing adaptive optics for retinal imaging have shown promise, indicating potential for success in this novel application.
