Analyzing respiratory viruses after COVID-19 in Hong Kong
Metagenomic Study on the Distributive Pattern of Respiratory Virus in the Community After the Emergence of COVID-19
This study is trying to see how COVID-19 has changed the patterns of respiratory viruses in adults in Hong Kong and what that means for flu seasons and symptoms.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to characterize the distribution of respiratory viruses in the upper airway and their relationship with influenza seasons, symptoms, and exposure settings. It will recruit 500 adults from Hong Kong who will complete a bilingual questionnaire and self-collect nasal and throat swabs for metagenomic analysis. Participants will be invited through randomly selected households and will receive a voucher for their time after returning the samples. The study will focus on understanding the impact of COVID-19 on respiratory virus patterns.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults residing in Hong Kong who can communicate in English or Chinese.
Not a fit: Patients with mental illnesses or those who are prisoners will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of respiratory virus dynamics post-COVID-19, potentially informing public health strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have been conducted, this specific approach focusing on post-COVID-19 respiratory virus patterns is relatively novel.
