What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the recycling potential of waste generated in endoscopy units across various healthcare facilities. Over a four-week period, waste will be collected and categorized into residual waste, paper, and plastic at two inpatient hospitals and two outpatient facilities. The study will assess the quantity and quality of waste produced during different types of endoscopic examinations and compare the findings between the various locations. Additionally, it will explore the potential savings from using reusable items instead of disposable products.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients undergoing endoscopic examinations such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, or bronchoscopy.

Not a fit: Patients who do not undergo endoscopic procedures or those not involved in the waste generation process will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more sustainable practices in endoscopy, reducing environmental impact and waste.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited scientific data on this specific approach, similar studies have indicated potential for improved sustainability in medical practices.
