What this trial studies

This study aims to analyze protein expression in the serum of individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by comparing it to a control group. Building on previous findings that acupuncture significantly affects serum protein profiles in KOA patients, this research will gather data from adults over 50 years old who do not have knee pain. The study will utilize a Micro-Western Array to measure protein levels and will also assess pulse wave energy values. The results will help establish standard values for serum protein expression in KOA, facilitating future comparisons.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 50 years old who do not experience knee pain.

Not a fit: Patients with a clinical diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis or those who have recently taken anti-inflammatory medications or received acupuncture treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the biological markers of knee osteoarthritis, aiding in better diagnosis and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach builds on previous findings related to acupuncture and KOA, the specific analysis of serum protein expression in a control group is a novel aspect.
