Analyzing miRNAs in COVID-19 patients

Circulating Mi-RNA Associated With Disease Severity and Outcome in COVID-19 Patients

Observational Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS · NCT06881160

This study is trying to see if certain tiny molecules in the blood can help predict how severe COVID-19 will be and if it might lead to death in adults who have tested positive for the virus.

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in patients diagnosed with COVID-19, focusing on their association with disease severity and mortality. By analyzing miRNA profiles in individuals confirmed to have SARS-CoV-2 infection, the study seeks to identify potential biomarkers that could help predict clinical outcomes. Participants will be adults aged 18 and older who have tested positive for the virus, while pregnant women will be excluded from the study. The research will be conducted at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS in Rome.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to the identification of biomarkers that help predict the severity of COVID-19, potentially guiding treatment decisions.

How similar studies have performed: While the analysis of miRNAs in relation to COVID-19 is a relatively novel approach, similar studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for other diseases.
